Junglegold Bali

Junglegold Bali is a chocolate company based in Bali that produces high-quality chocolate using locally sourced cacao instead of imported. They work closely with Balinese farmers and handle every step of the process themselves, from growing and harvesting the cacao to making and packaging the final chocolate, they are known for their sustainable practices and plant-based chocolates.

We visited the Junglegold chocolate factory and followed a guided tour by one of the workers, who walked us through every stage of the chocolate-making process. The tour started outdoors among the cacao plants, where he explained how cacao grows and why Bali’s climate is almost perfect for it. He also talked about how Junglegold works closely with local farmers, supporting them through premium prices and sustainable farming.

During this part of the tour, he cut open a cacao pod and showed us what it looks like on the inside. We were able to taste the outside which was sweet but the bean itself was really bitter.

Next, we went inside the factory where the cacao beans are dried, roasted, and processed. We watched as the beans got prepared and he explained how each step affects the chocolate. The guide showed us how the cacao is ground and mixed with other ingredients to create different types of chocolate. We also saw how the chocolate is poured into moulds, cooled, and packaged.

During the tour, the worker explained how Junglegold supports local farmers and how cacao has had a positive impact in the economy, and that the price of making chocolate has almost tripled in a few years.
